Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at a mourning ceremony in the Pakistani city of Karachi, Hojatoleslam Mukhtar Ahmad Imami said the followers of the school of Imam Hussein (PBUH) must defend truth with insight and courage, following the example set by the Imam during the Battle of Karbala.
He said the Holy Qur’an highlights the virtues of believers and praises those who serve religion and remain committed to the path of truth.
Imami also stressed the importance of honoring religious figures and those who have sacrificed their lives in the cause of truth. He said acting in accordance with the Qur’an and the Prophet’s tradition requires highlighting the status of those who have dedicated their lives to defending Islamic values.
The Pakistani cleric further said sincerity is among the most important characteristics of those who sacrifice their lives for a righteous cause, stressing that the true value of a person’s deeds depends on the sincerity of their intentions and their pursuit of divine satisfaction.
Referring to a narration attributed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) concerning the position of Imam Ali (PBUH), Imami said turning away from the Imam’s divinely ordained leadership laid the groundwork for deviations in Muslim society.
He argued that distancing the Muslim community from the principle of the Ahl al-Bayt’s leadership eventually paved the way for the rise of the Umayyad dynasty and, decades after the Prophet’s passing, the rule of Yazid, ultimately leading to the tragedy of Karbala.
Imami said Imam Hussein (PBUH) stood against Yazid despite the atmosphere of fear and repression prevailing at the time, teaching Muslims that they must not remain silent in the face of oppression and deviation.
“Standing against Yazid-like forces and oppression brings dignity, while remaining silent in the face of falsehood ultimately leads to humiliation,” he said.
The religious scholar also pointed to the consequences faced by those who remained silent in the face of injustice, saying that the events that followed the tragedy of Karbala, including the Battle of al-Harrah, demonstrated the heavy consequences of failing to confront tyranny.
Imami concluded by urging believers to understand their individual and social responsibilities and remain vigilant toward oppression, deviation and what he described as “Yazidi forces” of their own time.
He stressed that followers of Imam Hussein (PBUH) must draw on the lessons of Ashura and defend truth with insight, courage and sincerity.
